Happy double bank holiday everyone! I hope you are all having a lovely, relaxing time and that the weather holds up for all of your bbq, picnic and party plans! I thought I would share with you this cute ruffle cake that I made for a Jubilee party this weekend. They wanted something that incorporated the Union Jack colours and diamonds for the jubilee but in a slightly different way so I created layers of patriotic ruffles and ruffled roses in graded shades of blue, and finished the top tier with a stylized Union Jack flag made from diamante stones and with the shape of a flag rippling in the breeze.
I personally will be spending the next two days in the kitchen putting the final touches to a very tall wedding cake for a stunning wedding this week. I am definitely destined not to be able to take advantage of free holidays as now that I work for myself, every day is a potential work day and bank holidays don’t really mean as much as they used to, except that I may be persuaded to switch my computer off a little earlier or we may treat ourselves to something a little special for dinner. Cue flashback to ten years ago, when we celebrated the Golden Jubilee, and everyone was looking forward to their special four day weekend…except me, who not only had to go into work to finish writing my dissertation, but I had to cycle there as my normal lift in was away on a bank holiday mini break. It was torture! Thankfully, times have changed and I now love what I do so the loss of that bank holiday feeling is a small sacrifice to pay for what I have now 🙂
