the cake & bake show, manchester, 5th – 7th april

Hi everyone! If you are looking for something fun and cake-related to do in the next few weeks, The Cake & Bake Show is coming to town and is looking to be a really exciting event! Along with a host of celebrities and top names in the baking world, from Paul Hollywood to the cast of the most recent Great British Bake Off and lots of awesome people that I am really looking forward to meeting, you may have heard that I shall also be involved in the action! In fact, if you have spoken to me or I have emailed you in the last couple of months, you may have heard A LOT about this. I was blown away when I was invited to be a part of the show and although it has taken a huge amount of planning just for my little contribution, it’s going to be well worth it!

I have lots of irons in the fire for this, from a wedding cake on display to a beautiful dessert table, both taken from my 2013 wedding cake collection. I will also be running two different classes daily across the event.

Firstly, I will be showing you how to turn this…into this:

I have changed the method slightly for my actual classes so that the parrot will be even easier to carve and even cuter at the end. Gotta love a fat birdie!

I will also be teaching my drawing and acrylic-style edible painting techniques on several different desserts, which I used to create my Lowry-inspired wedding cake:

There is also a Cakes on the Catwalk competition area split into two zones; amateur and professional. My design concept has been accepted for the pro category, which has the theme Vintage Couture. I have taken my inspiration for this from one of the original Vogue front covers. I love the painted images and thought that this one from 1926 would be perfect. What will I do with it? Aha, that is still top secret, you will have to come to the show to find out! 😉

More information can be found here, where you can also buy tickets for the show and the different classes that are running. If you’d like to read a bit about me or any of the other people involved, this is the page.

Exciting times! If you do head on over to Manchester Central (formerly The GMex, I still keep having to do that conversion in my head!), I hope you have a great time and be sure to say hi!
